‘Clear Skin, But Make it Sustainable”

More and more we have seen a shift in the beauty industry. I am sure we are familiar with terminology like “vegan” and “cruelty free” when reading product labels for skin, hair and beauty products. Now there is a much needed emphasis on “clean beauty” which goes beyond the ingredients and testing practices to the actual impact on the planet. That being said we have seen cosmetic companies changing their packaging as well as their ingredients so that their products are more sustainable and lessening its contribution to the current climate crisis, and our massive consumption of single use plastics.
“Zero Waste” is the new buzzword that you should be on the lookout for in the beauty industry. We have already seen brands like LOLI Beauty, BEAUTYCOUNTER, and Elate that are making it their mission to create and provide sustainable skincare products that are better for people AND the planet. They have been able to do this through their ingredients, their process, and their packaging.
What has been surprising and also pretty amazing is that Rihanna, accomplished musician, humanitarian, activist, fashion icon, inclusive makeup pioneer, etc has joined the conversation with her latest launch, Fenty Skin. Rihanna has vowed to be a part of the “earth-conscious evolution” by embracing the 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. My personal favorite is the refillable system that she has created with her SPF Moisturizer that allows you to keep your original container and just purchase refills to limit packaging and cost.
My hope is that more big names will join the earth conscious evolution, use their platform to push the needle in the right direction, and revolutionize the clean beauty industry.
